in the Library: Norse Gods, bugs, and fangirl pride
For this update, I have two Amazon products, a company, a book and a magazine.
It will primarily be featuring what I think of as "fangirl fashion". Fangirls wear their colors as a sort of disclaimer, saying, "I'm a ________ fan, and I know it." My growing collection of fangirly shirts show how much of a nerd I am. I have enough that half the time if someone sees me they can tell at least one of the things I fangirl over.

Zazzle is a website that allows people to create designs and put them on generic products so that they can get out there. I discovered this through one of my friend's use regarding her web comic, the Magician and Rabbit. This is what I ordered: http://www.zazzle.com/female_rabbit_t_shirt-235095818790759847
The sizing was relatively accurate. It was a bit bigger than I had expected- it fit well but was kind of long. It worked alright for me, but I figure for someone with a squarer upper body, it might not work so well. The fabric was soft and seemed to be of medium quality. It was pretty stretchy and the white part was a bit see-through, which tends to annoy the ever picky Indigo, but otherwise it seemed alright. I really don't know much about cloth, so...
Anyway, I was pretty happy about a few things: the printed design was high quality and looked just like in the photo, and while I only just got it today, I can already tell from the way it sticks to the fabric it's not going to peel easily. In addition, the coloring was accurate. I like the design a lot, so I'm pretty happy with it.
Zazzle seems like a pretty good company and an even better idea. The quality is not the most amazing, stunning quality you have ever seen, but it's alright.

I also bought this wonderful shirt a while ago. It's one of my favorite shirts. It fits well, I like the design, it's high quality, and it's not too expensive. I don't really have any pros and cons to go over; I like it that much.
This and my third fangirl shirt (one in the same style but for Star Wars) are my two favorite shirts. Sadly, despite me searching ALL OF MY GMAIL SENT MESSAGES AND MY SEARCH HISTORY ANNNND LOOKING IT UP MULTIPLE TIMES ON GOOGLE AND ON AMAZON. I AM SORRY.
In good news, searching through sent messages found me reading through the ultimate moment of fangirliness; rereading an email. From an author I nerd over frequently. To me. I sent her an email expecting a generic response and she wrote back, ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS AND I DIE OF JOY EVERY TIME I THINK OF IT SORRY Y'ALL. I wasn't planning on doing this right now but go read everything by Frances Hardinge and then come back to me.

Yeah. Sorry. Not very professional, am I. *clears throat*
THIS beautiful beauty is the average Cricket. (except in a better resolution. Sorry it's such a bad pic.) I've just been thinking, as I slooowly leaf through my newest Cricket, how little I actually appreciate Cricket.
It's an amazing mag that I've been getting since I was what, eight? Even before the magazines were addressed to me (I still get a little thrill of delight seeing my name on the back) I was still reading them. They have encouraged my love of reading and writing and my visits to their website, the Chatterbox, remind me that I am not the only nerdy, writerly gal out there. So from the depths of my dark blue heart, mwah! I love you, Cricket! Continue to be brilliant.
Although Cricket does give me a bit of reading material, an appetizer, if you will, it does not really give you that complete filling. Which is why I sometimes need a much more exciting read.
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard is my newest adventure. The whole, 'find a snappy teen and send them off into having to deal with a bunch of questy stuff and then enjoy leaving them very much irrated at the Gods, also give them a smart, brave and snappy heroine' is getting a taaaaaaad bit old, but this is still a good read. It's funny and while I do feel Rick Riordan could perhaps expand his horizons and still do well, I understand his desire to stick to what he knows. This is definitely a good book- just don't read it right after finishing the Percy Jackson series, or it won't be so good. Sort of like eating so much cake without any water that it feels like sticky glue and you can't appreciate the inherent loveliness of said cake anymore because of how much of it there is and also I wonder how long this run on sentence and rather too long metaphor can be stretched out.
Yeah, anyway. That's about it! Enjoy your dose of Indigo's fangirling!

OH MY GOSH I WAS GOING TO GET THAT HOGWARTS T-SHIRT (sorry, this felt like some kind of sign). I mean... I have a Ravenclaw one, though. I'd argue I dug myself into more of a fangirl hole there, since it's not as "major" a house (good grief, Gryffindor, get out of the spotlight).
ReplyDeleteThank you for your Cricket fangirling! I always feel weird writing out my stream of consciousness but that's just what I want to hear. Thank you.
Sorry this took so long to get posted!
DeleteStreams of consciousness are fine, I don't see a problem with them as I often spit out conversation in the form of me explaining my stream of conciousness in the most interesting way available... like I'm doing right now.
Yep, Indigo, I have that shirt. xD (you may not remember it, but you mentioned it before and I thought it was this shirt. Coincidentally, I'm wearing it right now.)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree with you about Magnus Chase, one hundred percent. I'm not too familiar with the Norse gods, but I was able to get through it really well.
Aaand lastly (now that I'm commenting I need to mention everything, don't I) I agree with you about Cricket, too. Love ya, you awesome mag, for whatever good it does!
