on War
For such a short little word, three innocent letters, war is pretty important. War has changed the world- not in a sappy way, more of a it-has-literally-changed-the-world. Without the Roman Empire's army and conquest, they would not be an Empire and the culture of the areas they conquered would be a lot different. But the thing is- is the change war makes good or bad?
War is a sacrifice, war is hope. War is a sacrifice to get what you want. Coming up quite soon is the Fourth of July, celebrating our victory in our war for our freedom, a reminder that you must fight for the things that matter most to you. Love is sacrifice, and so in a way, love is war.
War is often hate. War does not need to be hate; war can be judgement, war can be fair; but often justice is just one of the sacrifices given in the hope a war will be won.
A war should not be started carelessly; battles should not be fought over spilled milk. A war is a mark of importance, a mark of mourning for what you do not have and desperately want. Do not mourn for the ants you step on; the cost is too high. And yet, some things dearly deserve mourning.
War heroes are people we have sacrificed, who have sacrificed for us, for our victory. War heroes are people who have sacrificed for us, so we should sacrifice for them. We should honor our war heroes, for it is through their sacrifices we have some of the things most dear to us. They deserve the glory; they have earned their stripes.
Do not go searching for glory in meaningless war. A war fought for glory is a war fought for nothing, and gives you nothing of any value. What is glory when it is the glory of having killed someone for that very glory?
Think of those who we sacrifice when we fight our wars. Think of the things our wars have earned. War is a heavy toll, and while is the Fourth of July is a time of celebration, we should also know what we have sacrificed for our freedom.
