I am an author.

I realized a year or two ago the fact that I am a writer.

All you really have to do to be a writer is to have written or is engaged in writing- maybe not even fancy schmancy novels. Merriam-Webster says, for one of its sub-definitions,  a "person who commits his or her thoughts, ideas, etc. to writing" is a writer.

If you process the world linguistically- if you order your thoughts a lot of the time by writing down your internal monolog and elaborating on it, or you write a lot, or heck even if you don't always write as much as you should but love to write, you are a writer.

If you feel like your world view has been altered by writing- you angle your thoughts that you can put them down on paper best or note down details of science or history class to use- you are a writer.

And if you are a writer, you are also an author. Cuz guys, an author is just a fancy word for a writer. You don't have to be published, you don't have to write much (though I really do encourage writing loads, it's that kind of thing that makes your writing better), you don't have to even write well.
