in the Library

This is a new series I'll be starting in appreciation of art forms. The two art forms I have the most experience in are music and literature. Since I get story ideas when I listen to music and listen to music when I read sometimes, this makes sense to me even if it doesn't to you. I'll talk about the feel of the music/story/story idea and various threads, the themes and what I think about them, just a sort of review without it being very formal. For my first entry I have a book and a series, a world idea, some updates regarding fun writerly projects, and a music video.

I first heard about this book when my sixth grade language arts teacher said she was considering having this coming year's class read it. One of my classmates commented that they had read it. The cover looked interesting but I forgot about it for the most part. I saw in the library this Saturday and couldn't help getting it to check if it lived up to the hype.

While not stunning, this book is a sublime, gentle sort of book. The writing style is amazing and the plot, while not action packed, never feels boring. With lots of interesting thoughts on war and society, this is a quietly sad book that leads you along the contemplative journey a boy and his fox experience.

Warnings: One swear word I've ran into so far, some mentions of mildly inappropriate stuff. Nothing major; don't read this to your little sibling and you should be fine.

First off, it should be noted, that if you have not read the Septimus Heap series, go read that first. It's a wonderful series that this series references quite a bit. I've reread the Septimus Heap series quite a few times, so although I saw them at the library I went for rereading this book, and a sequel my library just got.

For all your Septimus Heap fans, this is the best addition to the world you could ask for. It references the 'main' series without relying on the main series for plot, has it's own interesting characters, and shares the writing style that made the previous books so beloved.

Honestly, this is probably the best addition to an already popular and wonderful world I've seen. Some people *coughJKRowlingcough*
should really take a page out of Angie Sage's book... haha do you get it? I'm sorry. I know. That was horrendous.

The second book continues the wonderful sub series in a like fashion. While looking for the pictures on the internet I ran into what may or may not be the conclusion to the sub series. The alleged "Starcatcher" book is not a creation I've had the pleasure of reading, but considering the author and her previous masterpieces, you should not turn it down.

Warnings: None. Nada. Both series are very clean. You could read these to your five year old sister... though she probably wouldn't understand the vocab... nevermind.

While I am not such an amazing wordsmith as Angie Smith or Sara Pennypacker, I do have a new story idea I'm rather happy about. A story idea involving a rag tag town built up instead of out, layers on layers of cramped little houses burned around the edges by a looming war breathing down their necks and the volcano's liquid fire dripping down their streets.

In addition to my more serious world idea percolating in the background, I'm working on two projects just for fun and friends. One of them is slightly more serious than the other. The more serious one being a bit of Harry Potter fanfiction I'm writing just exploring the world a bit more without having much real direction. It's very fun to write, but I doubt anyone besides my faithful editor Citali would be up for reading it.

My less serious but also harder to write project is CBers VS Zombies II. Also known as Harry Potter and the Zombie Apocalypse. *Mwahaha...coughcough* I think I'm coming down with a cold you know. Probably from swallowing so much water swimming today. Your horrendous swimming abilities are not the topic of conversation, Indigo, what was... ah yes! CBers VS Zombies!

I'm having quite a bit of fun mashing together various fandoms and messing up the space time continium is always a blast. *Chesire cat grin* Things are a bit slow, because all of my projects are constantly fighting for dominance as I have various spurts of inspiration, but I'm sure I'll get it done. Eventually.

I've always been a Lindsey Stirling fan, but she's really outdone herself here. Everything, from the actual music to the dancing to the amazing costumes or just the way the three mesh, is spot on. This one of my favorite vids from her, and if the rest of her album is this good or almost this good, well, I'll be counting the days till it's released!

Have you read any of the books I referenced? Any thoughts on my story ideas? Does the Youtube video link work or is it all just a scam by Blogger? Tell me in the comments below.
